The panel discussion is aimed at taking forward a previous proposal that was made by us on introducing ‘Design and Innovation’ into school curriculum that would enable children to exercise their innate ability to think creatively with an opportunity for this to get translated into innovative action points as part of their curriculum activities. This focus on children through design and innovation, although receiving some recent traction, is something that we have been pursuing for across a decade through various events and forums, including at a Designing for Children conference event organised by us at IITB ten years ago. The panel discussion is expected to bring in different thoughts and different perspectives. The intention is to deliberate on how we can expose children to aspects of creativity, innovation and design in their learning process.

A National meet on introducing ‘Design and Innovation’ in school curriculum was held at IDC, IIT Bombay during February 2009.

The outcome of the meet in February 2009 is the report on introducing 'Design and Innovation' in school Curriculum in India. The February meet had come out with a set of recommendations with regard to (1) curriculum, (2) methods of learning design and (3) modalities for
implementing this proposal.

This was submitted as a set of recommendations to the Ministry of Human Resources and Development and to the various directorates of school education.
